I know we mentioned Yelawolf and B.O.B.'s "It's a Party" and Frankmusik and Far East Movement's "Do It In the AM" as potential Songs of the Summer, but with the release of Cobra Starship's "You Make Me Feel," a clear front-runner has emerged.
With additional vocals by Sabi, the singer/rapper heard on Britney Spears' "(Drop Dead) Beautiful," the up-tempo, synth-driven melody and light "Na na na na na" hook is breezy enough to soundtrack your next pool party. While ostensibly a pop song, the track incorporates elements of Eurodance to keep it both club- and barbecue-friendly. Lyrically, singer Gabe Saporta pens a letter to his female companion, singing, "Girl I've been all over the world/Looking for you/I'm known for taking what I think I deserve/And you're overdue." Actually, it's probably an email or a tweet because no one writes letters anymore.
While we showcased Cobra Starship's "Don't Blame The World, It's the DJ's Fault" last week, "You Make Me Feel" is the official first single off the band's upcoming fourth album Night Shades. Sabi should also heavily increase her profile this summer when she opens for Nicki Minaj and Britney Spears on select dates of the "Femme Fatale" tour.
And don't forget to check out the lyric video, which simultaneously lets you sing along and feel a sudden urge for Chinese food.
