Lady Gaga told Vogue magazine that her new song, "Americano" is "a big mariachi techno-house record, where I am singing about immigration law and gay marriage and all sorts of things that have to do with disenfranchised communities in America. It sounds like a pop record, but when I sing it, I see Edith Piaf in a spotlight with an old microphone." And, boy oh boy, did she deliver on that promise.

Fans got to listen to "Americano" when Gaga trotted out the track (off her upcoming album, Born This Way) at a Monster Ball at the UAG Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico. The song does, indeed, boast a potent ethnic flavor that marries Gaga's signature danceable thumps with Spanish guitar and big ballad vocals. Needless to say, the crowd of Little Monsters went berserk for the song, which proves Gaga's continued flexibility as a songwriter, her wide breadth of musical skills now dipping into Latin terrain.

"Born This Way" and "Bad Romance" assured us that Gaga remains the queen of sophisticated dance-pop. "Judas" reminded us that she will always know how to cause controversy, teasing us with controversial Judeo-Christian references. Now "Americano" (not unlike "Alejandro") makes good on her promise to go global. Next up: Gaga does Enya? OK, probably not. Still, we are DYING for it to be May 23, when Born This Way drops.
