2011 mtvU Woodie Awards: Sleigh Bells Talk Violence, Karaoke And, Well... Violence

Lest you think Sleigh Bells is all violence, all the time, well... you're kind of right. There's the wielding of baseball bats, the fire starting, switch blading and pushing human beings out of a moving car (and those are just in their "Rill Rill" and "Infinity Guitars" videos). In person, Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss are, of course, not actually menacing, but they are both violently hilarious and fond of joking about violence. (I lost track of how many "pushing Derek off stage" jokes were made.)

After their spectacular Woodie Awards rehearsal -- I'm not allowed to reveal much more about their Woodies performance, so you'll have to watch -- Sleigh Bells posed for photos with Woodies host Donald Glover...

I sat down with Sleigh Bells for a Q&A session that revealed their taco enthusiasm, how Diplo basically stole Derek's machine-gun-carrying-manatee tattoo idea (jerk!!), and an elaborate recipe for Odd Future's (save!) Earl Sweatshirt's special milkshake. And, as we are in Austin, which is not only the home of live music but the home of an actual karaoke cab (it's karaoke on freaking wheels, and it's called The Land Yacht), Sleigh Bells shared their favorite karaoke songs, should they happen to encounter Austin's famed cab.

Watch Sleigh Bells' Buzzworthy interviews from the 2011 mtvU Woodie Award rehearsals. And don't miss the The 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards air live on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU from South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, March 16, at midnight (ET/PT).
