As part of MTV’s Indie Music Month, we’re premiering videos from some of the most exciting artists in the indie music scene. Today, Brooklyn-via-Cincinnati quintet The National debut a brand-new video, for the single “Conversation 16.” And given the cast of John Slattery of “Mad Men” and Kristen Schaal of “The Daily Show,” we’re pretty much sold already.
In keping with their patriotic name, The National look to the presidency for inspiration, as Roger Sterling Slattery and lead singer Matt Berninger play Secret Service agents assigned to protect the bored-looking President Schaal (extra credit for a female president, FINALLY). But even Secret Service agents get lonely, as Slattery — who looks so much like a real agent, it’s scary — falls in love with the woman he swore to protect. The Prime Minister of Russia, though, has other plans.
We don’t want to spoil it too much, though. Filmed on the rooftops of Brooklyn, The National’s “Conversation 16” video was conceived by Schaal herself along with a fellow writer on “The Daily Show.” What are you waiting for?
