First there was Wiz Khalifa’s “Black & Yellow,” and it was good. Then there was the remix, with Snoop Dogg, T-Pain and Juicy J. And it was great. Then then there was Lil Wayne’s “Green & Yellow,” which on the back of the Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl victory, stole a bit of that thunder. Now we have 17-year-old Miami artist Cris Cab’s semi-acoustic take on the color-crazed anthem. You’ve got to see this.
Wiz’s song is currently the No. 1 single in the country. And, in all likelihood, it’s currently playing on a loop in your brain. But Cab’s cover, spotted over at the awesome Pigeons & Planes, is anything but a cheap headline grab. It’s a thoughtful and subtle musical take on the hip-hop anthem. And with its attendant video, it’s a fascinating peek into how Cab built the reggae-tinged cover with a sampler, keyboard and acoustic guitar.
