The mark of a good cover song is when you can still hear the foundations of the original song but when the new version is unique enough to stand on its own. The Rescues, a Los Angeles-based pop-rock foursome, hit the nail on the head with their dreamy cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream."
While their "Teenage Dream" video is short about three dance parties, two bikini shots and one insanely hot boxer boyfriend, The Rescues' version of the song captures much of the sentiment of Katy's original "Teenage Dream"--whimsy, playfulness and romance.
The Rescues, who are a bit reminiscent of Stars, use their minimal black-and-white video to showcase their impressive harmonies while bringing a bit of a darker and more somber twist to the song. (BRB, adding this to my makeout playlist.)
And is it just me or does anyone else really enjoy watching a bearded, long-haired, leather jacket-wearing drummer sing "You think I'm pretty without any makeup on?" longingly into the microphone?
