Miley Cyrus is known for many things: her impossibly irresistible songs, her dancing, her ever-evolving style, her acting, her ex-boyfriends, her complicated relationships with fame and the internet, and her "Miley Cyrus: Can't Be Tamed World Premiere Live" performance tonight at 10:30 ET/7:30 PT. But one thing Miley doesn't get enough attention for is her lyrics.
Whether they're her own words or someone else's, Miley's music always comes from the heart, painting a pretty lyric word picture about what it's like "just being Miley."
So let's take a look at five awesome Miley lyrics.
1.) "7 Things I Hate About You" -- "And compared to all the great things/That would take too long to write/I probably should mention/The 7 that I like."
In Miley's classic breakup-to-makeup jam, girl goes on and on about all the reasons her dude is a dud. That is until the final verse where she switches gears and lists what she likes about him. Love is a crazy thing.
2.) "The Climb" -- "There's always gonna be another mountain/I'm always gonna wanna make it move/Always gonna be an uphill battle/Somebody's gonna have to lose"
Miley's inspiring ballad from the "Hannah Montana" soundtrack is about overcoming adversity. And this line, acknowledging the occasional necessity of defeat in one's life, is a nice turn of phrase.
3.) "Fly On The Wall" -- "If you were my boyfriend, I'd be true to you/If I make a promise, I'm coming through/Don't you wish that you could/See me every second of the day/That way you would have no doubt/That baby I would never stray."
In "Fly On The Wall," about a overly persistent dude, Miley dresses down her would-be suitor with this barbed wit.
4.) "When I Look At You" -- When the waves are flooding the shore/And I can't find my way home anymore/That's when I look at you."
Miley can tell a guy off with the best of them, but "When I Look At You" finds her in a more vulnerable, sensitive zone, expressing how much her significant other means to her.
5.) "Party In The U.S.A." -- "I'm nodding my head like, 'Yeah!' Moving my hips like 'Yeah!' "
Come on. It doesn't all have to be poetry! Has any line ever expressed the utter joy you feel when your favorite song comes on?
