New Video: Heavy D(readlocks), 'Long Distance Girlfriend'

Sooooo, this is interesting. Remember Heavy D & The Boyz? "Rev me up, rev me up my little buttercup?" "Now that we found love what are we gonna doooo?" He did the theme songs for In Living Color and MADtv and a cameo in The Cider House Rules. Ring a bell? Well anyway, Heavy D is back, sans Boyz and if his new (Grammy-nominated?!?!?!) jam is any indication, his D stands for dreadlocks. Heavy Dancehall. This could go on...

In other words, Heavy D (aka Dwight Myers of Mount Vernon, NY) has embraced his Jamaican roots and reinvented himself as an irie riddim-rydah to ... wait for it ... fantastic effect! Look out, Shaggy. For real. D's mellow-vibing downbeat single, "Long Distance Girlfriend," may just have what it takes to pull his big ol' name out of the archives and put it back up on the charts. Hell, it's already gotten him a Grammy nod! And although "Long Distance Girlfriend" may never trump "Now That We Found Love" (aka The Yellow Jumpsuit Apparatus), it's gotta be said: Big up, Heavy D.
