The High School Musical soundtrack was the best-selling album of 2006. And the sequel was even bigger. Like Terminator 2, and the Godfather Part II before it, the follow up to HSM (aptly titled High School Musical 2) overshadowed the original, raking in an additional 10 million viewers and becoming a #1 record in approximately five minutes flat.
Now, it's time for a new high school musical to hit the airwaves and catapult another crop of mall-aged youth into the ranks of teen superstardom. We are, of course, talking about The American Mall, which features future heartthrobs Rob Mayes and Nina Dobrev (above, pictured) plus familiar faces from Degrassi, Rent and The O.C. and a power-pop soundtrack that'll have you dancing in your seat, if not directly up and out of it.
Sadly, you'll have to wait another week or so to catch the premiere -- The American Mall doesn't hit the small screen until August 11th at 8pm -- but you can preview the soundtrack courtesy of MTV's "The Leak," and catch a video sneak peak of the action to come.
