This Was Probably Your Halloween Costume 5 Years Ago

Say hi to Snooki and The Situation.

Ah, 2010 -- "the year of the costume," as an AP story declared right before Halloween that year. That sounds kinda self-evident, right? But remember: Our economy wasn't great. Movie ticket prices were skyrocketing. The best way to have a bit of fun on a budget was to invest in a cool costume.

And invest we did.

2010 costumes were truly signs of the times, and Snooki and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) from "The Hangover" were basically the king and queen. And people were big and blue, like the aliens from "Avatar." And sometimes they were things that seem silly now, like iPhones that have long since become paperweights (remember the 3GS? LOL). But there was plenty more where that came from.

Oh, Katy. Forever inspiring a legion of cupcake bra-ed women to go do their thing.

"Today" anchor Natalie Morales celebrated the day as Biebs circa 2k10 in an outfit ripped directly from his "Baby" music video. You know, back before it had cracked a billion views on YouTube.

Lady Gaga (from the "Telephone" music video)

One of the most ambitious music videos of 2009 was still talked about well into 2010. And, let's face it -- it's Gaga. She'll never go out of style.

"Weekend Today" co-host Jenna Wolfe donned a cheetah-print cocktail dress and made her, uh, "hair" big and poofy to replicate the "Jersey Shore" breakout star. She even channeled Snooki's love of pickles to dive fully into the character. And of course, she wasn't alone...

Ah, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino. Along with Snooki (or Pauly D's blowout hair), he was likely the most recognizable sight from the show's first season, which debuted in late '09. Wolfe's co-host Lester Holt embraced Mike so completely, he even came complete with the washboard abs. Well done.

An absolute classic. Bonus points if you could finagle a real baby into your real bjorn.

Avatar Halloween

Movie fans had blue fever after James Cameron's epic "Avatar" dropped in late 2009. This pair of costumes is exceptionally detail-oriented -- note the eyes!

"Tangled" wasn't even released until November 2010, but the word was out early, and so were the costumes -- like this genius one of Rapunzel in her high tower. Beautiful craftsmanship.

"Toy Story 3" came out in June 2010, shattering our hearts and making us miss our childhoods all the same. By most reports, Woody costumes were aplenty -- but of course, you can't have Woody without...

I mean, you can have one without the other. But it's just not complete if you don't have both.

People still do this every year (kinda), but in 2010, it was still a novel idea to build a gigantic papier-mâché mouse head (or felt, or something).

Facebook Halloween

No one would do this in 2015 because they'd go as a bonkers Snapchat filter -- like the one where you spew rainbows -- instead.

The Boy Who Lived appears on pretty much every year's top costumes lists dating back to the early 2000s, so yeah. 2010 was no different, especially since it brought us the first part of the "Deathly Hallows" movies. (The beginning of the end -- *sniff*.)
