Demi Lovato Superfan Explains What It Was Like Finding A Sneak Peek Of Her Album In A Tree

Matt Case's Monday night changed everything.

It was just an ordinary Monday night for 20-year-old Matt Case, who was coming home from work at Time Square's American Eagle when a tweet popped up on his phone that would change everything.

Now, Case is one of the few people who is helping Demi Lovato reveal sneak peeks of her upcoming album Confident, and, after years of trying to meet his idol, they're finally going to hang out.

Lovato, whose album comes out Oct. 16, is hiding boxes around New York City with clips of her new music in them. At 11 p.m. on Monday, she tweeted out the location to box #1.

"I'm a huge Demi Lovato fan, so I have her tweets on notification," Matt told me on the phone on Tuesday night, admitting that it had been a long, hazy, dream-like day. "When I saw it was at Pier 25, I was like, 'oh my god, no way! I'm going.'"

Matt hopped in a cab from his home in Brooklyn and went straight to Tribeca. Twenty-five minutes after Demi's tweet, the Confident box was in his hands.

"I called my friend Nate and woke him up and we met each other there and we just searched and we found it in a tree," he said. "It was actually in the picture that she posted on Twitter. It's that tree."

"When we found it -- it was my friend Nate who pointed it out -- we made a scene about it, so people were coming over, and we ran and got it. And we didn't actually open it until we got home. I was already tweeting 'oh my god found it!' People were like 'tell us what's in the box!'

"Inside was a letter, it was a folded note that said 'Confident' on it," he said. "Also, there's a box that came with a flash drive. In the note it says, 'put the flash drive in your computer' and it's a 15-second live studio recording of her new song 'Stone Cold.' And it said, 'Now it's up to you to share it with the world,' so I posted it on Twitter and Instagram and everything."

Here's the video of "Stone Cold," which Demi performed for the first time last night. It's also the song she hopes will get nominated for a Grammy, she said in Tuesday's Complex cover story.

After Demi tweeted at him and retweeted his "Stone Cold" video, Case gained over 1,000 followers on Twitter within the span of an hour. And the best part? Here's what else the letter said:

"All lucky winners who find and share these sneak peek videos will be personally rewarded by Miss Demi Lovato herself."

Matt will be meeting Demi!

"I followed her since she was on Disney Channel on that sitcom 'As The Bell Rings,' before 'Camp Rock' even started," Matt said. "The one thing that kept me interested was how true she is to everyone. She isn't afraid to be who she is today. She tells everyone, yeah, that she struggled, she's not perfect. Her music in general speaks to so many people. Even to me, I can honestly say that if she wasn't the person that she is today, I don't know if I would be the same person. Her music, her words have inspired me to be a better person."

Since then, Demi has released another box in the world, found by Alex in NYC's Washington Square Park. It included a short clip of "Old Ways."

Better keep your eyes out, Lovatics!
