Electro-pop trio Years & Years completely won us over with danceable, hyped-up bangers like “King” and “Shine” from their debut album, Communion. But for their latest single, the Brits have gone in a decidedly more somber direction, opting to release the ballad “Eyes Shut.”
Even though the piano-driven track is softer than what most fans are used to hearing from them, it boasts a snap-filled beat that only gets stronger and more powerful as the song picks up.
On Monday (Sept. 28), the band released its accompanying music video, pairing the track with a post-apocalyptic theme in the vein of Ariana Grande’s “One Last Time” vid. Shot in one continuous take, we see frontman Olly Alexander wandering through a chaotic disaster site, complete with cult-like rituals, plenty of fire, and a hella cute wolf dog.
