It’s been more than a year since Canadian reggae fusion band MAGIC! released their addictive smash single “Rude.” And if we’re being honest, it’s taken us about that long to dislodge the earworm from our craniums.
But now, it’s back and more magical than ever thanks to a sultry new spin on the tune, courtesy of Selena Gomez. The “Same Old Love” songstress stopped by BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge on Friday (Sept. 25) to talk up her new album Revival, out Oct. 9, and to give MAGIC!’s tune a sensual makeover.
With the help of her backing band, a sparkly-dressed Sel keeps the song’s reggae tinges in tact, but offers up a softer, more emotive delivery. She may not exactly be able to relate to the plight of a well-intentioned guy who gets rejected by his girlfriend’s pops, but she sure gives this cover her all. Check it out:
Selena’s rendition even earned the praises of MAGIC! themselves, who tweeted their enthusiastic approval.
Yep, “Rude” is definitely stuck in our heads all over again — and we’re definitely OK with that.
