Isaac revealed his impressive plans when Javi pointed out how he and Kailyn -- who's finishing up her first year of higher education -- have a lot to be proud of as far as school goes. The newly minted kindergartner enthusiastically announced that he wants to someday go to college too.
That's a great goal for anyone -- especially for the child of a teen mom. Only about two-thirds of children born to teenage mothers graduate from high school (vs. more than 80% for children born to older moms). Even fewer go on to college.
But Isaac -- who's the inspiration for his mom's upcoming book -- is lucky because he's growing up in an environment where education is taken seriously. In addition, he has a great role model in his mother: Less than 40% of girls who have babies before age 18 graduate high school by age 22. Less than 2% graduate college before age 30. Raising a family and going to school are hard to do at the same time. It's even harder if there’s not a supportive partner or co-parent around.
The fact that Kail is working on her college degree is impressive in its own right, but the impact it will have on her sons is important too. Offer your congrats to both Kailyn and Isaac on their accomplishments in the comments section, and be sure to catch Part 1 of the "Teen Mom 2" reunion special on Wednesday at 9/8c.
