Some designers can take the fun out of fashion week. The shows are too serious, the clothes are just average, and you don't really understand how or why anyone would wear them outside the context of a well-lit runway. The Blonds are not those designers.

The duo debuted their new collection Wednesday night (Sept. 16) during New York Fashion Week, with David Blond summing up the inspiration as "Egyptian Disco." The clothes were tight, lavish, luxe, and so sparkling you could easily envision them on Beyoncé, J.Lo, Nicki, or another one of their very famous fans.

"We went to go see the remodel of the Met, their Egyptian exhibit," David told MTV News after the show. "And we kind of got obsessed with ancient Egyptian burial practices, and how they wrapped a body, and their obsession with gold."

The inspiration trickled all the way done to details like the fake nails the models wore, with one set including sarcophagi that opened up and featured samples of Phillipe Blond's hair. Just those nails took over 100 hours to make.

To come up with a collection this elaborate takes a lot of time. The Blonds start working on new collections almost immediately after they present their last and keep going up until the last minute.

"Now I just can't wait to have a fried chicken and waffles," Phillipe confessed -- a habitual post-show meal for them.

As designers who frequently reference films in their work, David and Phillipe had quite a few helpful resources to get inspired from when it came to this collection.

"There's so many [movies] to choose from. Especially all the different 'Cleopatra's that have been made over the years. [Actresses] Claudette Colbert, Liz Taylor. Obviously there was 'The Mummy' series," David said. "We become so obsessed with a theme that we get entrenched in it and then we exhaust ourselves."

But per their tradition, it's nothing a little chicken and waffles can't fix.
