The past few months have been quite the emotional roller coaster for "Game of Thrones" fans. First there was the intense high of Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) game-changing wildling battle in "Hardhome"... but soon after that, of course, was his deathly defeat at the hands of Olly in the show's season finale, "Mother's Mercy."
What happened next, throughout the long (but not Westerosi long) summer, was extremely confusing for both fans of the show (and particularly, Harington's beloved character) and the journalists who cover it: on the one hand, we had cast, crew, and HBO execs repeatedly confirming that we'll never see Jon Snow on the series again, but on the other, we had repeated sightings of Harington both near the show's Belfast set, and in London, rocking his Jon Snow hairstyle.
So, does the latter group of evidence mean that HBO (and the "Thrones" crew) are telling little white lies, or does the latter group merely point to Harington filming a (extremely long) funeral scene for the show, or even just visiting his old pals on set? Check out our detailed timeline of all Jon Snow-related activities and decide for yourself -- and be sure to check back for all Harington updates:
June 14: Jon Snow dies on "Game of Thrones."
The end of season five of "Game of Thrones" marked the end of Jon Snow -- supposedly. Harington gave an interview to EW that ran that night, confirming his demise.
July 2: Harington is photographed rocking his Jon Snow Cut in London.
Our first major clue that Snow might come back came via Wimbledon, where Harington was spotted in July, sporting the same long locks that are the trademark of his character.
July 21: Harington is photographed at the Belfast airport.
Late in July, a Watchers on the Wall reader spotted Harington at the Belfast airport -- the same city where Castle Black scenes are filmed -- and took photos of the actor with a brown bag he'd been spotted with before.
Week of July 25: Harington is photographed with Dolorous Edd in Belfast.
According to PopSugar, the paparazzi shots were taken in Belfast.
July 28: Harington is spotted by a fan at a Bainbridge hotel.
This hotel is near the Linen Mill Studios, where "Thrones" films every year.
July 29: Harington is photographed in a coffee shop with Nathalie Emmanuel in Belfast.
Harington dined with Missandei, and was unable to stop the onslaught of fans taking photos.
Week Of August 5: Harington is photographed buying groceries in Belfast.
According to PopSugar, the photos of Harington buying frozen pizza and a bottle of wine were taken in Belfast.
August 8: A fiery scene is filmed at "Castle Black," leading to speculation that this is Jon Snow's funeral pyre.
However, many also noted that this could be Melisandre's resurrection fire. Or something else entirely.
August 28: A fan claims to have met Harington at a restaurant in Northern Ireland, dining with Alfie Allen.
He would not pose for photos due to his "Thrones" contract, but he did sign an autograph.
August 30: Harington is photographed in London, still with his Jon Snow hair.
September 8: Harington tells a Belgian magazine that he's still on "Game of Thrones."
Oops! A major glimmer of hope came to Snow fans in September, when Harington told Humo that he would "probably be in my thirties" when "Game of Thrones" is over for him.
September 8: Harington is spotted in Belfast wearing a "jaunty wee flat cap."
September 10: Sources tell "Watchers On The Wall" that Harington is filming a big battle scene in Saintfield, Northern Ireland.
"Sources report that today 'Game of Thrones' is filming portions of a massive battle in Saintfield, Northern Ireland, that will likely be a part of episode nine," WotW wrote. "Preparations and the beginning of filming were seen in that area recently, but it was difficult to glean many details. We’ve learned that the battle will involve many northern armies fighting including the Umbers, the Boltons, wildlings and more! The true major spoiler is this: Kit Harington a.k.a Jon Snow was also seen at the location, participating in shooting this week."
September 11: Harington is spotted out on the town with Iwan Rheon.
September 25: Harington is finally caught on set, filming season six of "Game of Thrones."
Is it time for Harington and the "Game of Thrones" crew to finally admit that Jon Snow shall return? Because Harington was snapped filming a scene in Northern Ireland on Friday, September 25, and the photo was picked up by The Daily Mail.
