The 'Heroes Reborn' Cast Promises To Bring Back The Original Show's Magic

Remember how great that first season was? Because "Heroes Reborn" is reaching for that.

When "Heroes" first premiered in 2006, the show was praised for being an imaginative, thrilling superhero story unlike anything else on television. But for many, that momentum didn't last -- after the show returned from a shaky second season (made even shakier by the 2007 writer's strike disrupting all of their plans halfway through) ratings steadily dropped until the show was finally canceled after season 4, leaving a lot of disappointed nerds in its wake.

For many relapsed "Heroes" fans, it's weird to see a series that had so much potential back in the day getting a second shot at greatness with "Heroes Reborn." But while at San Diego Comic-Con in July, the latest additions to the "Heroes" universe -- Ryan Guzman, Judi Shekoni, Henry Zebrowski, Danika Yarosh, Gatlin Green and Robbie Kay -- assured MTV News that their new project will capture the magic of the show we loved... but with a twist.

The biggest change coming to the "Heroes" universe? That the world finally knows about people with superpowers, thanks to Claire Bennett (Hayden Panettiere) publicly revealing her powers on television at the end of the fourth season -- and the tone of the show has shifted as a result. "It's suddenly dark and ominous," Kay said. "I think once [the world] realized that there are people with supernatural abilities, everyone kind of started freaking out." ("Wouldn't you? If you had a bunch of Spider-Mans running around and you have to deal with them? They'd be robbing everything," Zebrowski joked.)

"What's so great is ["Heroes Reborn"] keeps all the elements that people really enjoyed in the original," Shekoni said. She would know, because she considers herself a huge fan of "Heroes" and watched the show as it aired. "It has a higher story about love and conflict between people and groups which everyone can identify with."

"The original series kind of ended on a cliffhanger -- it 'says to be continued,'" Green said. "I know a lot of fans were like, 'Aw, we want more, I want to figure out what happened!' This kind of gives it closure, and lets you know what became of the characters and the world... and there's just a lot of new stuff, and there's going to be roller coasters of awesome. It's back to season one, but also there's a lot of new stuff that's going to be really, really cool and exciting, following completely different characters and storylines."

"We are remaking 'Heroes,'" Zebrowski added. "'Heroes Reborn' is that. It's a whole new show. It's darker, it's intense. It's really exciting. You don't really know what's going to happen in the show, it's a lot of twists and turns. And I think people will be really into it."
