Malala Calls The World's Response To The Refugee Crisis 'Pitiful'

She Prayed That Aylan Kurdi's Death Would Not Be In Vain

Nobel prize-winning education activist Malala Yousafzai thinks the world's response to the Syrian refugee crisis was been, well, "pitiful." In an op-ed for Time magazine this week, she wrote that, "Food rations for refugees are being cut because nations will not contribute their fair share to help. Entire refugee camps have only one or two schools for children. If we say we care, we must not just use words, but take action." Estimates are that 11 million Syrians have been displaced due to an ongoing civil war and Yousafzai said she knows what it's like to have to leave home, because she and her family had to do just that for three months in 2009 due to conflict in Pakistan's Swat Valley. A day after her call for more help President Obama pledged to allow more than 10,000 refugees into the U.S. over the next year.

Second GOP Debate Lineup Set

Let's see if Donald Trump will insult Carly Fiorina to her face on Wednesday night. Because both Republican presidential candidates made the cut for the second GOP debate, which will find the top 11 contenders facing off in primate time at the Ronald Reagan presidential library in California. In addition to Trump and Fiorina, the stage will include Ben Carson, Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee and Rand Paul. The night's earlier debate will feature lower polling contenders Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Lindsey Graham, Bobby Jindal and George Pataki.

Joe Biden Talks About His Presidential Doubt

The Vice President was on "The Late Show" on Thursday night, where he gave a very emotional, moving explanation for why he might not yet be ready to run for president next year. "I don't think any man or woman should run for president unless, number one, they know exactly why they would want to be president and, number two, they can look at folks out there and say, 'I promise you, you have my whole heart, my whole soul, my energy, and my passion to do this,'" said Biden, who has run for president two times before. "And I'd be lying if I said I knew I was there."

President Obama's Iran Nuclear Deal Is In The Bag

The President scored a major victory on Thursday when Senate Democrats were able to block a Republican effort to reject the six-nation nuclear deal with Iran. After months of threatening to derail the deal, Republicans could not muster the 60 votes needed to break a Democratic filibuster, ensuring that one of Obama's biggest foreign policy victories came without the support of a single member of the majority in Congress.

Quick Take 1: Quick, does the boiling point of water increase or decrease as you gain altitude? What causes the ocean's tides? If you could answer those questions, congrats. If you couldn't, well, you're then you're just like the 94% of Americans recently surveyed who couldn't get a perfect score on a quiz about "common" knowledge science questions. Like, oh, how light travels through a magnifying glass. (I got 11 out of 12, BTW.)

Quick Take 2: LeBron James is making the most of the offseason. The Cavs superstar, who announced last month that he would help 2,300 students get through school, is also going to help their parents succeed. The LeBron James Family Foundation announced this week that its new program, "I PROMISE, too" will give parents of the at-risk students its helping money to pay for their GED practice exams and the exam itself, as well as giving them HP laptops (which they get to keep if they finish the classes), free bus passes and parking to attend classes and prizes for progress and attendance.
