Could This H.S. Girl, And Her Boyfriend, Go To Prison Over Sexting?

They Both Sent Nude Selfies And Faced Adult Charges

A 16-year-old Fayettville, N.C. girl was arrested in February for sending a sexually explicit naked photo of herself to her boyfriend and charged with two felony sex crimes... against herself. Here's the thing: she was listed on the warrant as both the adult perpetrator and the minor victim of two counts of exploitation of a minor. Her boyfriend was hit with five sexual exploitation charges as well, four of them for making sexually explicit pics of himself.

A plea bargain arranged last month could have spared her from prison and having to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life, if she complies with her probation. During a recent court hearing a judge put her on probation for a year, told her to stay in school, refrain from drugs and alcohol and not have a cell phone during her one-year probation. Her boyfriend, however, is facing an upcoming court date and could be tried as an adult for exploiting a minor... himself.

Image Of Drowned Boy Becomes Emblem Of Syrian Refugee Crisis

As the Syrian refugee crisis across Europe reaches a crisis stage, the image of a 3-year-old boy -- and his 5-year-old brother -- who drowned while trying to reach a Greek Island has instantly become an emblem of the desperation and risks migrants are willing to take to escape from war. The images quickly spread and activists suggested they needed to be seen in order to spur the international community to action.

Stolen Laptop Story Didn't Add Up

Two brothers who were transporting $1 million worth of Apple laptops headed to New Jersey public high schools told police last year that the shipment had been stolen from a parking lot near their home. But their description of the alleged theft just didn't add up and on Wednesday the pair, Anton, 43 and Gjon Saljanin, 40, were arrested and charged along with two other men with stealing 1,195 laptops after evidence showed they clearly made a detour and dropped the computers off at their friend's house. the FBI traced the stolen merchandise -- which they'd sold for as little as half their $1,000 list price -- to a dozen people. The brothers are expected to plead guilty to the charges of conspiring to steal from an interstate shipment.

Daily Stat: The ongoing wars in the Middle East (Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Libya, Palestine, Yemen, Sudan and Jordan) have prevented 13 million children from attending school on a regular basis. UNICEF reported that 40 percent of children in the region are not getting an education due to violence.

Daily WTF: Still no jetpacks, but thanks to the Arx Pax hoverboard, the company is working with NASA on developing... wait for it... a device that can attract one object to another from a distance. In other words, TRACTOR BEAMS! Sure, they're going to be deployed to make "micro-satellite capture devices" that can hook up satellites from a distance. But still very cool.
