Hozier's 'Lay Me Down' Cover Got Major Approval From Sam Smith
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and that's especially true when we're talking about the divine song cover stylings of Hozier.
The Irish singer-songwriter is a master of his own domain, of course -- as his debut album record sales and Grammy nom well prove -- but he's got a history of giving an all-new, unique groove to some of our favorite tunes by other artists.
Case in point: This upbeat very Hozier-iffic rendition of Sam Smith's "Lay Me Down" he belted out at BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge.
Naturally, Sam Smith was blown right away by what Hozier did with his tune and shared his appreciation for his distinct art of live rendition-ing on Twitter Tuesday (Sept. 1).
"Brother @Hozier - f--king love the Live Lounge cover!!!!" he wrote, adding "Anything you sing makes me heart jump xx Big kisses sir xx."
Hozier, in turn, was flattered by the compliment and raised a virtual glass to his mate.
"Ahh! Thrilled you like it!! Was an absolute joy to cover - hope you're keeping well man x," he replied.
These two need go get a room and duet already, geez! (No, but seriously. Duet.)
