You might be used to seeing Kylie Jenner's Instagram page filled to the brim with a selfie game that plays on every possible pose/angle/lighting/filter imaginable, but now she's breaking out a whole new play for her 34-plus million followers that is sure to win all the hearts.
On Tuesday (Sept. 1) Kylie launched her #IAmMoreThan campaign on Instagram, which she introduced as an effort to spotlight six different bullying victims who've risen above the hatred to become an inspiration.
"For the next six days, I will be sharing stories of 6 incredible people who have become heroes in their own way by taking #bullying and turning it into something positive," explained the youngest Jenner. "I’ve gotten to talk and bond with all of these people whose stories you will see on my page. I think you will all fall in love with them just like I did."
For the first installment of the effort, Kylie shared a pic of a 21-year-old college student named Renee DeShane who was born with Pfieffer Syndrome, a condition which she herself described as "a genetic disorder where the bones in my face don't really know how to fuse correctly so part of my jaw is really small."
"I had to have surgery when I was born so that my brain could grow," explained DeShane.
Kylie chose DeShane as her first #IAmMoreThan story because she thinks "Renee is so strong willed and a super intelligent girl" who found a way to maintain a sense of positivity throughout her adolescence.
"I went to school with all the same kids all the way through high school. Right around senior year, I started getting very anxious about having to explain my condition to all of the new people I would meet in college," DeShane told Jenner. "I started going on Tumblr and saw lots of profiles of positive, confident people."
When people are disrespectful to her about her photos, however, she admitted that it can be difficult keep her virtual lips zipped. "It’s so hard to keep myself from responding to the negative comments," Kylie quoted Renee to say. "Even harder is keeping my friends from getting angry." But DeShane makes it a life goal of hers to "Stay Strong, Always Love" which makes her >>>>> all that noise.
Beautiful choice, Kylie. We're so into this right now.
Kylie said that by sharing stories like this one from Renee, she hopes her followers will be inspired to see and appreciate the good in themselves as well and tune out the negativity in their lives as well.
"I want to encourage you, my fans, to share something positive about yourselves. I'll be reading as much as I can so that some of you can be apart of this as well! Let's do this," she wrote.
