It's incredible to see how much people, relationships and circumstances can change in just a few years. Take for example, Kanye West and Taylor Swift, who shared one of the most infamous (and uncomfortable) moments in MTV VMA history back in 2009 -- only to put it all behind them at the 2015 awards show.
It certainly felt like things came full circle between these two on Sunday night, when Taylor presented Kanye with the Video Vanguard Award, so now we have to look back at how this all played out.
Taylor Swift Bought Kanye's Album When She Was A TeenagerDef Jam
Okay -- this is a strange start, but I'm going in chronological order here. When Taylor presented Kanye with the Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 MTV VMAs, she admitted that 'Ye's debut, The College Dropout was the first album she ever purchased on iTunes when she was, according to her, 12-years-old (though more likely when she was 14). Which means that she was a fan from the start. Awwww.
...But They Met When Kanye Grabbed The Mic From HerChristopher Polk/Getty Images
12-year-old Taylor would've been a little bummed if she knew how things would unfold when she finally met Kanye. You know how this one goes: Taylor wins award, Taylor tries to give thank you speech, Kanye grabs mic, Kanye doesn't let Taylor finish.
Kanye Went On a A Taylor Swift Apology Tour
Beyonce immediately stepped in to comfort Taylor Swift, giving her another moment to shine after Kanye grabbed the mic, and then Kanye went on an apology tour in the years that follow. He apologized for that drunken moments many, many times over the years.
Jay Z Encouraged Taylor To Give Kanye Another Chance
Beyoncé did her part, and then Jay Z did his part. In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Taylor admitted that it was Hov who helped them to patch things up. "I feel like I wasn’t ready to be friends with [West] until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me," she said. "And he wasn’t ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me—so it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time."
So They Even Had A Dinner Date!Getty Images
We assume that this dinner went down after Jay Z helped them reconcile. Following the 2015 Grammys, Tay Tay and 'Ye linked reportedly linked for dinner at The Spotted Pig in New York City. If only we knew what they spoke about.
...And Then Shared Their New BFF Love At The VMAs
Have you seen a more beautiful moment at the VMAs? Taylor took the stage on Sunday night to honor Kanye with the Video Vanguard Award and she told the full story -- of falling in love with 'Ye's music as a kid, having that awkward encounter at the VMAs and eventually being able to work through the entire thing. "Something that you may not know is that Kanye West's first album, College Dropout, was the first album my brother and I ever bought on iTunes when I was 12 years old," she said, even referring to him as her "friend" at one point.
See kids, happy endings do exist.
