I don't know about you, but when MTV announced on Tuesday (Aug. 25) that Kanye West will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, I got a little nostalgic. After all, the award is one of MTV's highest honors -- and it's only given out to the best.
The Video Vanguard sits on the mantels of bands like U2 and The Rolling Stones, rappers LL Cool J and the Beastie Boys and pop divas like Britney Spears and Madonna. In 2013, Justin Timberlake was honored, and just last year, Beyonce celebrated her Vanguard Award with a 16-minute performance.
Bey took the 2014 VMA stage to play a medley of hits from her surprise self-titled album. It was a performance that was confessional, sexual, emotional -- altogether, human. As an ode to the upcoming 2015 VMAs (five more days!), we're reviving Bey's performance. Watch it here!
Watch the teary speech she gave while accepting the award (with a special appearance by Blue!):
