Watch Nina Dobrev Become A Scream Queen In This 'Final Girls' Trailer

Alternate Title: 'How To Survive Your Favorite Horror Movie'

We've all got a favorite horror movie (or two, or a million), but do you remember it well enough to survive if you suddenly found yourself thrust into the picture? Chances are, you've dreamed -- or had a nightmare, rather -- of that exact scenario, where you've had to go toe-to-toe with that murderer/monster/ghoul you feared so fully in the flick. But even if it didn't go so well, you got to wake up at the end, safe in your bed with a probable sheen of nervous sweat and the relief of it not being real.

But when it happens in "The Final Girls," nobody's sleeping, and the consequences are legit. Yikes. On the bright side, the results are shaping up to be pretty hysterical.

The first trailer for the comedy-horror film is here and presents a pack of reluctant time-and-plane-of-existence travelers played by Nina Dobrev, Alexander Ludwig, Taissa Farmiga, Alia Shawkat, Thomas Middleditch and Adam DeVine. The kids go to watch "the granddaddy of all campsite slasher films," which just so happens to star the late mother of Farmiga's character. But when the theater unexpectedly goes up in flames, they find themselves living (and trying to keep it that way) in the film as things start to get dicey for the teens at Camp Bloodbath.

This pic aims to take all the trope and cliché play that "Scream" did for the horror genre nearly two decades ago to a whole new level and actually send these kids into the scary movie they love so well. Can they survive the Michael Myers-esque killer du jour with their line-for-line memory of the flick ... and a few sensual dance moves?

The pic screened at the SXSW Festival earlier this year and earned itself some well-deserved comparisons to the instant classic "Cabin In the Woods" due to its genre-bending-and-breaking technique and a ton of cheeky self-awareness. Good stuff.

"The Final Girl" hits theaters and digital HD on Oct. 9, 2015.
