ANAHEIM, California -- It's a tale as old as time: boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy loses girl, boy goes on an epic adventure to find the girl and tell her how he really feels. That's the plot of Pixar's anticipated "Toy Story 4." A love story between Woody and Bo Peep, the film will follow Woody and Buzz as they head out into the world to find the sheriff's one true love.
Disney Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter announced the film's official synopsis at Disney’s D23 fan convention on Friday (August 14). "We made a pinky promise to each other that we would not make another 'Toy Story' unless we found a story that was worthy," Lasseter said. Lucky for us, they did.
The script for "Toy Story 4" hails from actors-turned-screenwriters Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, who previously penned and starred in "Celeste and Jesse Forever." They're working from a story treatment from Lasseter, Andrew Stanton ("Finding Nemo"), Pete Docter "Inside Out"), and Lee Unkrich ("Toy Story 2").
Though Lasseter, who's back in the director's chair for "Toy Story 4," said it's still too early on in the production to show any new footage, he did offer a surprisingly sweet anecdote. Woody and Bo's love story was inspired by his wife. Aww.
Woody's the kind of guy that never gives up on a friend, so we knew he'd have to come back for Bo Peep, especially after she was shamefully forgotten about in "Toy Story 3." (We're still a little bitter.)
Songwriter and performer Randy Newman will also be back to pen the music for "Toy Story 4."
