Disney Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter has finally confirmed what Pixar fans have been hearing for months: "Toy Story 4" is going to be a love story.
"It's a love story with Woody and -- and this is news -- Bo Peep," Lasseter, who is directing the film, told CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" at Disney's D23 fan convention on Friday (August 14).
Rumors of the film's romantic plot first hit late in 2014, but Pixar has been keeping things under lock and key, so it took about nine months for the big brass to confirm it.
"At Pixar and at Disney, we only make sequels if we come up with a story that's as good or better than the original," Lasseter continued. "That's our rule. We don't do things just to print money... it's really exciting."
Also exciting for Pixar fans should be the speculation on what this means for the rest of the franchise's beloved group of characters. Bo Peep (Annie Potts) was written out of "Toy Story 3" as Andy grew up and shed most of his playthings, so this could mean that "TS4" will be set in the past. Or might Bo have an incredible journey to find her long-lost love (Tom Hanks) in Bonnie's room?!
The options go to infinity, and beyond.
