7 Female Celebs Who Spread The Body Positive Fitness Love

Muscular is sexy.

If you spend a lot of time watching movies and television, playing video games, viewing advertisements, or just engaging in modern culture in any way, shape or form, then you probably are already familiar with the one type of female body that society has deemed acceptable: the thin body. The body that boasts thin things, full breasts, a toned tummy, and arms that have some definition, but not too much to appear thick or remotely intimidating.

Which, hey, is totally great if that's what you have to work with, because we're all about spreading the body love for all shapes and sizes. But it's also totally great when female celebs step up and admit that being muscular and powerful feels freaking awesome. Like, your thigh gap looks good, but so do my thick and powerful "thunder thighs" that come courtesy of squats, lunges, and kickboxing.

    Rousey, UFC Women's first Bantamweight Champion-slash-actor-slash Olympic medalist, faces a lot of criticism for her muscular physique -- but do you know what she says to that?!

    "I think it's hilarious if people say that my body looks masculine, or something like that," Rousey said in "UFC 190 Embedded." "I'm just like, 'Listen, just because my body was developed for a purpose other than f--king millionaires doesn't mean it's masculine.' I think it's femininely bad-ass as f--k because there's not a single muscle on my body that isn't for a purpose. Because, I'm not a do-nothing b--ch. It's not very eloquently said, but it's to the point. And, maybe that's just what I am. I'm not that eloquent, but I'm to the point."

    Carano, also an MMA fighter-slash-actor and fitness model to boot, told Men's Health that learned to utilize her body for its strength literally saved her life.

    "When I found fighting, I found a reason to wake up every morning," she said. "I found a reason to treat my body with respect, and treat other people with respect too. It completely pulled the rug out from under the life I’d been living. It made me want to attack life instead of letting life keep happening to me."

    Blunt, who beefed up to play the heroic, alien-fighting Rita opposite Tom Cruise's slightly wimpy (yet hilarious) William in "Edge of Tomorrow," told USA Today she worked out "six days a week, two and a half hours a day" for the role. "It was brutal at first, and then became addictive," she added. "I wanted her to look lethal and I wanted to go all the way."

    Months later, Blunt gave birth to a freaking child, proving that the female form is awesome and badass and powerful in all of its iterations.

    Williams, a frequent target of body-shamers who think that the fact that her thighs are thick is more important than her Olympic gold medals, her six wins at Wimbledon, and so on and so forth, has NO TIME for anything but self-love.

    “Most women athletes are pretty thin," Williams told Huffington Post. "I didn’t really know how to deal with it. I had to come to terms -- as every teen and young adult does -- with loving myself. I had to find different role models. But my body type is in style now, so I’m loving it!”

    In, not in -- as long as it's serving up realness (and tennis balls), we love it, too.

    "I have such a strong sense of self, there are certain lines I just won't cross," she told NJ.com. "I'm really picky about the parts I choose. I can't be the slut. I cannot be just the girlfriend. I can't be the girl who gets empowered because she's been raped. I can't be the girl who gets empowered and then dies. But still, Black Widow herself is a freaking beast who filmed insane "Age of Ultron" stunts while pregnant, and her slim but SUPER muscular physique is the result of a whole lot of admirable hard work. It's unfortunate that she gets asked about said physique at press junkets while her male costars wield questions about, you know, their characters, but she still deserves to be celebrated, no?

    "I do the same fitness routine as my big muscle-man trainer," she told Style.com. "A lot of it is endurance, stability, and strength training. I like to work up a sweat. I’ve tried Pilates and yoga and all that, and I like to dabble in different things, but I always come back to a good old-fashioned athletic, full-body workout."
