They say the Circle of Life moves us all, and this time around, the Circle of Life is making us feel REALLY OLD, because Simba's son is about to save the Pride Lands in his own "Lion King" movie.
Disney Junior announced on Wednesday (August 12) that its upcoming movie "The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar" would bring back Simba (now voiced by Rob Lowe), Nala (now voiced by Gabrielle Union), Mufasa (still James Earl Jones), Pumbaa (still Ernie Sabella), Timon (now Kevin Schon), and Rafiki (now Khary Payton) for a whole new adventure. This time around, Simba and Nala's second sun Kion (Max Charles) will be the one getting his paws dirty in the Lion Guard, with a gaggle of animal buddies that includes a "fearless" honey badger, an "intellectual" egret, a "confident" cheetah, and a "friendly and good-spirited" hippo.
"Set in the African Savanna, 'The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar' follows Kion as he assembles the members of the Lion Guard," Disney Junior explains in the release. "While traditionally the Lion Guard has been comprised of lions known to be the fiercest, bravest, fastest, strongest and keenest of sight in the Pride Lands, Kion breaks tradition by instead calling upon some of his friends who he believes best exemplify these heroic qualities. Throughout the movie and the series, the diverse team of young animals will learn how to utilize each of their unique abilities to solve problems and accomplish tasks to maintain balance within the Circle of Life, while also introducing young viewers to the vast array of animals that populate the prodigious African landscape. "
The movie will be a precursor to "The Lion Guard" TV show, which will premiere in early 2016. Check out the new squad below:
