The Facebook co-founder and his lovely lady have been happily married since 2012, and they're soon to be a family of three – Mark Zuckerberg took to Facebook (naturally) to announce that he and wife Priscilla Chan are expecting a baby girl. But that's not the only news he shared.
Alongside a photo of the happy couple and their adorable mop-like pup Beast, Zuckerberg detailed a personal struggle. "We want to share one experience to start," he wrote. "We've been trying to have a child for a couple of years and have had three miscarriages along the way."
"It's a lonely experience. Most people don't discuss miscarriages because you worry your problems will distance you or reflect upon you... So you struggle on your own," Zuckerberg continued. "In today's open and connected world, discussing these issues doesn't distance us; it brings us together. It creates understanding and tolerance, and it gives us hope...We hope that sharing our experience will give more people the same hope we felt and will help more people feel comfortable sharing their stories as well."
We're sending major, major props to the couple for sharing this story – they're using their experience and influence to forge a community of support, and it's a beautiful testament to those three little lives. Of course, we're not entirely surprised that the quietly powerful duo is working to bring this subject out of the shadows – these are the same folks who are helping undocumented students go to college and donated $25 million to help fight Ebola.
And the best news, of course, is that their baby girl is healthy. And that she's already on board with the family business! "In our ultrasound, she even gave me a thumbs up 'like' with her hand," Zuckerberg divulged. "So I'm already convinced she takes after me." We know these two are going to be ahhhhmazing parents – now, when does Baby Zuck get her own Facebook page?
