Yes, You Can Pull Off Purple Lipstick — Here's How

Whether you like it or not, purple lipstick is on the up and up. You might think it's too fringy for you, but you'd be wrong. It's a great way to switch up your beauty look late-summer that won't melt off your face, AND it can transition into fall. (I know that's something you probably don't want to start thinking about yet, and I don't blame you, but it's coming.)

If you're thinking about trying out purple lipstick but are scared of looking like you have hypothermia, look no further. All you need are two tubes of COVERGIRL's Blast Flipsticks — one in Flashy (815) and one in Intense (860) — your favorite foundation, and some clean makeup brushes.

  1. Dab

First, you'll want to moisturize your lips, but then dab them off with a tissue to make sure they aren't too glossy.

  2. Prime

Next, you'll want to coat your lips with a light layer of your foundation. Not so much that you completely cover them, but enough to turn them into more of a blank canvas, so the color really pops.

  3. First Layer

Apply the darkest color in the Flashy COVERGIRL Blast Flipstick to the middle of your lips and work your way out.

  4. Fill

Use a lip brush with the same color to evenly bring the color all the way out to the edges of your lips.

  5. Second Layer

Using the same brush, pick up some of the darkest color from the Intense COVERGIRL Blast Flipstick and apply a second coat of color. Feel free to use more or less of this depending on just how deep a purple you want.

  6. Refine

Using a foundation brush and your regular foundation, carefully go around the outside of your lips to clean up the edges for a picture-perfect finish.

*drum rolllllll*

Ta-da! Look at those deep purple lips!
