Zayn Malik revealed on Wednesday (July 29) the "real" reason he left One Direction back in March. The singer shared a picture of him signing a contract with RCA, writing, "I guess I never explained why I left, it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am!"
So there you have it -- Zayn has officially gone solo and is signed with RCA Records.
Zayn had explained why he left the fivesome earlier this year when he released a statement: "I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight," he wrote.
Many speculated that the singer left the band to save his relationship with fiancee Perrie Edwards, after he was seen holding hands with another girl in Thailand. Others speculated that he was pursuing a solo career, although that would've contradicted his statement. However, when U.K. producer Naughty Boy started posting pictures of them together and hinting at collaborations, it became clearer that Zayn was starting to create his own art -- especially when a leaked demo hit the Internet.
After his departure from the band, he went on an Italian vacation with Edwards and dyed his hair all sorts of colors. He also was seen sitting front row at Paris Fashion Week with Kanye West and Joe Jonas.
Malik also tweeted "#realme" along with his "#realmusic" hashtag, indicating that his participation in One Direction was a different version of himself. Well, I guess we'll see who the "real" Zayn is very shortly.
