The death of Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old Chicago woman who was arrested in Texas and found dead in her jail cell three days later, has reinvigorated the conversation around police brutality. It's added to the ongoing national outcry on and offline, including spawning the #JusticeForSandra Bland hashtag.
On Thursday (July 23), Nicki Minaj joined the online conversation around Bland, and took to Instagram to encourage her Barbz to learn more about her:
She also posted footage from the Bland's arrest with the caption, "Rest in Peace #SandraBland."
According to NBC News, a prosecutor told reporters Thursday that "medical examiners ruled the death of Sandra Bland a suicide by hanging, and the autopsy uncovered no evidence of a violent struggle."
Prior to this announcement, Bland's mother, Geneva Reed-Veal, had spoken about Sandra at her funeral on Tuesday (June 21). "I have a baby to put in the ground," she said. "She wasn’t my convict, she wasn’t my suspect – she was my baby."
