We already knew that renowned hobbit and "Sherlock" wingman Martin Freeman was joining the cast of "Captain America: Civil War," but details are still murky about what sort of role he'll be playing in the Marvel universe -- which is just how Freeman likes it.

In an interview with Italian movie news site BadTaste.It, Freeman was asked what he could say about his part in "Civil War," and replied with this wonderfully, unambiguously ambiguous answer:

"We can say that he works for the government. He works in conjunction with the superheroes and certain agencies that help to tame the superheroes. So you're not quite sure which side he's on," Freeman said. "It looks a little bit like he’s playing one game when actually he’s playing another. It’s the kind of character I like because it’s ambiguous and because you don’t know whether he’s good or bad. I like that area that isn’t black or white, I like the grays, because I think there’s just more fun to be had in not playing one obvious line."

So, we still don't know for sure who Freeman is playing. But! His answer strongly suggests that one MTV News writer was right on the money in suggesting that he'd be stepping into the character of Henry Peter Gyrich, of counterintelligence agency S.W.O.R.D.

And there's one more hint: When the interviewer asks whether Freeman's accent in the film will be the same Minnesotan patois he picked up for "Fargo," Freeman laughs and says, "No, it's not. [It's] East Coast American."
