First off, a crucial announcement: No, One Direction aren't breaking up. Everyone take a deep breath.
All good? Cool. Let's get to the news, then.
Simon Cowell did indeed speak about 1D this weekend, and yes, he did recommend that the four take a bit of a break, presumably after they complete their fifth album. Or, you know, because Louis Tomlinson is definitely going to be a father. Or maybe because they've had quite the dramatic year already.
BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN 1D IS OVER, GUYS.
Cowell told The Sun over the weekend that Harry, Liam, Niall and Louis deserve some time off after years of cranking out consistently successful tunes.
"In terms of the band, they’ve got enough hits now they can take some time off and do some other stuff they want to do," Cowell said to Sun reporter Dan Wootton. "Then I hope they’ll have a little bit of time apart and want to get back together again. It’s a fun job, but it’s absolutely their decision."
Cowell also delved into the band's support for him -- as he is, after all, 1D's godfather (or was it the other way around?) -- after the death of his mother earlier this month.
"God almighty, I’ve got to tell you with what happened with my mum these are the nicest bunch of people...You know, that’s when you really get to know someone, when something happens to you, when it’s outside of music and outside of record sales," Cowell said.
He also had some paternal advice for Louis on this whole "gonna be a dad" thing that people keep bringing up and yet Louis has yet to respond to directly because ugh.
"I said to him, ‘You man up. You’re fortunate because you’re in a position to be able to look after the baby and not worry too much about that,'" Cowell said.
The entire thing is worth a read, and you can find it here. In the meantime, we'll just be hangin' here, twiddling our collective thumbs, waiting for Louis to tell us what we already know. C'mon, Louis.
