Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to watch Jennifer Lawrence tie the knot...in a movie trailer.
The first trailer for "Joy," Lawrence's latest collaboration with "Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle" director David O. Russell, is here, and it's like Christmas (the film's release date) came early. Except that if Christmas had come early, we'd already be watching "Joy," so.
Lawrence plays a businesswoman who suddenly becomes a single mom at the ripe old age of 27, and "Joy" examines whether she'll rise to the top or drown. The character is based on several women in Russell's life, among others.
Russell told EW that he considers it his biggest project in scope, following Lawrence's character from the ages of 10 to 40.
“It’s my first film that really has the woman as the star,” he said. “What’s it like to become a boss and the godmother of a family and dynasty, both emotionally and commercially? You go inside that person’s soul, and it’s alternately hilarious, horrifying, and sort of joyous. Relationships are always complex, and nobody gets to success without breaking some of their own bones—and other people’s, too.”
The project also reunites Lawrence with frequent co-stars Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro.
Check out the trailer.
EW also unveiled the first official stills from the film, one of which features Lawrence as a blushing, laughing bride.
Cheers to that.
"Joy" hits theaters December 25.
