Find Out Why Kendrick Lamar Is Being Sued Over ‘Blacker The Berry’

Kendrick's got some new legal woes.

Kendrick Lamar’s striking To Pimp a Butterfly album cover got a lot of people talking thanks to its thematic hints of social criticism and racial prejudice in the U.S. But it’s another one of Lamar’s cover artwork images that’s been racking up attention lately — and not the good kind.

Lamar is being sued by freelance photographer Giordano Cipriana over the single artwork for his TPAB track “The Blacker The Berry.”

Cipriana claims Lamar used his photograph — which shows a mother breastfeeding two babies — without permission or payment. The lawsuit was filed on July 10 and also names Top Dawg Entertainment, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records as defendants.

Cipriana is seeking $150,000 in damages for every time his image was used, as well as compensation for his legal fees. He has also demanded an injunction against Lamar to prevent any future unauthorized use of the photo.
