Exclusive: The Inside Look At How Bill Murray Opened Up Comic-Con

It. Was. Epic.

Bill Murray knows how to make an entrance -- and what better place to make an entrance than the very first panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2015?

MTV was hanging out back stage at the Open Road panel, where Murray surprised the crowd in support of his upcoming movie "Rock the Kasbah." We knew Murray was coming -- in fact, rumors had started swirling about his appearance the night before -- but still, the closely guarded secret was only officially known by Murray, Open Road, and your fine reporter here at MTV News.

So we waited for Murray back stage... But of course, true to Murray form, he didn't even come back stage. Instead, the star entered in the middle of the crowd in character as washed-up music manager Richie Lanz, wearing a floral bandana, aviator sunglasses, a suede jacket and a whole lotta 'tude. Oh, and did we mention he rocked out a karaoke version of Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water" as he made his way up to the stage? Because he did.

Needless to say, the crowd of thousands exploded.

After the panel, though, was one of those "only at Comic-Con" moments, as the Open Road panel crossed over with the next panel in the room, celebrating "The Hunger Games."

Jennifer Lawrence, a huge fan of Murray's, got her chance to meet him ahead of the "Hunger Games" panel.

And he's a fan right back.

When Murray was pulled away by photographers for his official post-panel photo op, Lawrence covered her face with her hands, folding in half with joy at the encounter.

And then of course, Murray bonded with moderator Conan O'Brien.

Yeah, that happened.
