Since the Fourth of July is America's birthday and the day after is basically a continuation of all things red, white and blue, it follows that July 6th would be tangentially related to all that. And it totally is.
Every July 6th is National Fried Chicken Day, according to this Twitter hashtag (and confirmed by this NPR story from 2012). That means you can keep celebrating #America all day today and do what Reese Witherspoon did on Saturday -- surround yourself in tons and tons of fried chicken goodness.
While you do that, here's a chicken-themed playlist to dive into. Which ones did we miss? What are your favorite tunes for a grill-out (or deep-frying) binge?
D'Angelo - "Chicken Grease" - 2000
The premier jam for cooking while simultaneously getting as funky as you possibly can.
Zac Brown Band - "Chicken Fried" - 2008
For when you want to feel *authentic* about your carnivorous habits.
Ludacris - Chicken-n-Beer - 2003
If this isn't a chicken-feast anthem album, I just don't know what is.
Little Feat - "Dixie Chicken" - 1973
Nothing like a huge helping of cheese to go with your chicken.
Nas ft. Busta Rhymes - "Fried Chicken" - 2008
Nas + Busta + Mark Ronson's production = deliciousness.
The Magnetic Fields - "Chicken With Its Head Cut Off" - 1999
Weird mental image while chowing down on some wings, but just go with it.
Yo La Tengo - "Return To Hot Chicken" - 1997
A quick after-dinner nap does wonders.
Werner Thomas - "The Chicken Dance" - 1950/'60s
Of course this song was written by somebody. It didn't just fall out of the sky like some kind of...bird. A Swiss accordionist penned it in the middle of the 20th cenutry, obvi.
Happy eating, y'all.
