Exclusive: Gucci Mane Does Not Have A Prison Release Date

Gucci's lawyer tells MTV News that rumored release dates are false.

Gucci Mane has been incarcerated since September, 2013, on weapons possession charges, and it seems like his friends and fans were so anxious to have him come home, that they got a little carried away with false reports about his release date.

Rumors have been swirling that the rapper, born Radric Davis, would be released on July 11, but his lawyer, Drew Findling, told MTV News that is completely false.

"We do not know where that rumor came from, so that's just Internet and social media fabrication," Findling told MTV News on Tuesday, June 23. "We have no idea where that release date came from because we're still in the midst of resolving things with the Bureau of Prisons. There was some confusion on their part, about his release date."

Findling didn't completely rule out the possibility that Gucci could be granted an early release from his three-year sentence, but he emphasized that nothing has been finalized.

"I can't get into specifics, but we're in the midst of corresponding with the Bureau of Prisons," he added. "I'm trying to iron out a specific release date for him, but that I can tell you that is not his release date. There's nothing formal about that. It's a product of social media."

HotNewHipHop points out that the rumor was fueled in part by an Instagram post from Atlanta DJ, Bankhead, who shared a photo of Gucci along with the caption, "JULY 11 MY HOMIE BACK IN THE STREETS SALUTE," this week.

Mike Will also got fans excited by tweeting about the rumored release date.

So, for now, Gucci will remain behind bars but MTV News will keep you updated as more details are available.

In the meantime look out for his Trapology mixtape, which is still set to arrive on July 1.
