Hey girl, did you know Ryan Gosling's last name means baby goose?
Well it does. And today (June 22) he is taking that feathery connection to heart and sticking his neck out again for the chickens. See, Gosling's clucking cousins are in trouble, guys, and he wants to help free them from their cruel cages once and for all.
In an open letter for The Humane Society, Gosling revealed the super disturbing results of an investigation conducted by the organization regarding Costco's egg supplier, and it takes the expression "for the birds" to a whole new, terrible meaning.
"Video footage revealed abhorrent cruelty including rows upon rows of birds confined in filth-laden cages with the mummified corpses of their cage-mates—eating, sleeping, defecating, and laying eggs on top of dead birds—and hens' wings, legs, and necks trapped in the corroded wires of their battery cages," he wrote.
Gosling's letter, written to the CEO of Costco and made public by The Human Society, urged the exec to switch its supply to cage-free only eggs and make good on the packaging imagery which shows the animals roaming free in green pastures.
"You're already eliminating cages for veal calves and pigs – don't you feel that chickens also deserve the same mercy?" he demanded.
This isn't the first time Gosling's publicly squawked about filthy farming practices associated with his winged friends. Back in 2011, he was part of a massive Mercy for Animals campaign to address McDonald's choice of unethical egg suppliers, and in 2003, he worked with PETA to address KFC's foul fowl treatment.
Keep on quacking that whip, Ryan.
