The U.K. dance brother duo first teamed up with everyone’s favorite “pure heroine” at last year’s BRIT Awards, where they performed a sonic mashup of “Royals” and “White Noise.”
Lorde’s smoky timbre pairs so fantastically with Disclosure’s sticky synths, that the two have apparently decided to bottle that lightning for good by going into the studio together.
At least, that’s what we HOPE is happening, based off this vague but promising tweet Lorde sent on Wednesday (June 10).
Her caption is definitely noteworthy, as the word “tunes” indicates more than one track and makes it seem like whatever they’re working on is an ~official~ thing, rather than just an impromptu jam sesh over creamy desserts (side note: anyone else hardcore craving an Oreo milkshake right now?!).
Last month, Lorde blogged about her “next body of work,” the follow-up to her stellar 2013 debut, Pure Heroine. She admitted she’s not sticking to a prescribed timeline, but did tease her new material as “very exciting and scary but SO VALIDATING.” She also went on to cite Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” as a “perfect” record that’s currently inspiring her and making her fall in love with music all over again. Hmm… don’t know about you, but that track definitely sounds like something up Disclosure’s alley.
Meanwhile, Disclosure announced their sophomore studio effort, Caracal, this week. They’ve already confirmed the album’s Sept. 25 release date and have even dropped a couple new songs from it. That makes us think it’s unlikely they’re prepping any new material for it, which means their speculative collaboration with Lorde seems more likely to end up on her album.
In any case, let’s all keep our fingers crossed that Disclosure have joined Lorde’s “team” to bless us with new music, and not just to tease us with milkshake selfies.
