Fetty Wap Explains How He Dealt With Image Issues Growing Up

Fetty also reveals how becoming a father changed his life.

Fetty Wap might seem like a confident star on stage now, but the Patterson, NJ MC/singer wasn't always comfortable with how others treated him. As a kid, he lost vision in one of his eyes, and that was difficult for the hip-hop artist to deal with, particularly when he was teased.

“When I was younger it used to bother me a lot,” Wap told Noisey Thursday (Jun. 4). “Not bother physically, but when people would say how I looked, I fought a lot. I used to fight a whole lot. Now it doesn’t bother me at all.”

So, what helped him change? Fetty's son was born. “That’s where everything really changed for me as far as the whole glaucoma thing because I was more so worried about if he was going to have the same problem,” he said. “When he was born, he was able to see out of both of his eyes...It was like I got my vision back.”

That wasn't his only bundle of joy. Wap - who was just named a XXL Freshman - fathered a daughter earlier this year as his "Trap Queen" and "My Way" singles flourished.

That success might rise even more this weekend as Fetty's set to appear at Hot 97's "Summer Jam's" festival stage. Since breaking through, Wap's amassed a large following, one that includes Kanye West, Drake and a lot of adorable kids.
