Hot on the heels of the announcement that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian have Baby Kimye #2 on the way, the couple stepped out Monday night (June 1) for the prestigious CFDA Fashion Awards—a kind of high-fashion version of your senior awards banquet.
As always, the happy couple turned it out on the red carpet—Kim in custom feathered and grommeted Proenza Schouler and Kanye in a wrapped shirt, ripped jeans, and...
...his Adidas Yeezy 350 lows. [insert row of flames emojis here]
Both Mr. and Mrs. West hit the CFDA stage with super-appropriate presenting duties. Oh, you need someone to introduce an award for the creators of Instagram? Who better than the Queen of Selfies?
Looking for the right person to honor Pharrell Williams with the 2015 Fashion Icon Award? Look no further than Kanye West. Why? Ye says it best himself, "Pharrell has always been my style idol." And as with every other Kanye West speech, this was not the only classic quote of the night.
Thanking Pharrell for all of his guidance, even from the very beginning of his very rocky journey into the fashion industry, Ye says, "Fashion had to be the hardest high school I ever went to, but at least I had a big brother."
Better, though, is Kanye's reference to the beloved recurring "Key & Peele" sketch, "Obama's Anger Translator" when comparing himself to Pharrell. "You know how Obama brought out the angry version of himself?" he says, "I'm like the Angry Pharrell." [Personal opinion: If you watch the sketch over with that context, Ye's analogy actually kind of makes sense.]
If there's an Angry Kanye, he wasn't around at the CFDAs. Not even a run-in with Fern Mallis—former Executive Director of the CFDA, creator of New York Fashion Week, and one-time Kanye-dissenter—could harsh his vibe. Is that trip to The Spotted Pig in the near-future? Only time will tell.
For now, I'll just be here staring at this pic of Skateboard P, Helen Lasichanh, Kim, and Kanye—basically the ultimate embodiment of #SQUADGOALS—until my vision gives out.
