These High School Seniors Canceled Their Field Trip To Help Their Principal Fight Cancer

The New Hampshire students had spent four years saving for a trip to New York.

High-school graduation season is fast-approaching. At these ceremonies, we always hear about compassion, setting a good example and paying it forward. I think it's safe to say that few embody this spirit more than the senior class at Profile Junior-Senior High School in Bethlehem, New Hampshire. Students there had saved for four years for a class trip to New York but they canceled it and decided instead to donate all the money to their principal, who's battling cancer.

According to WMUR, after four years, the students had raised $8,000, which was going to be used for their four-day trip to Rydin' Hi Ranch in Adirondack State Park. However, once their principal, Courtney Vashaw, told the kids she was battling a rare and aggressive soft-tissue cancer, the students unanimously voted to forgo the trip and give all the funds to Principal Vashaw for her treatment.

The students said their principal's selflessness and compassion inspired them. "Ms. Vashaw really touched us all and influenced our lives," Profile senior Leanza Hunt told Today.com, "And we know she would have done the same for us. We wanted to give back to her after she's done so much for us."

The students aren't stopping there -- they've already planned a vintage car rally in August to raise more money for their principal.

"I will never be able to pay them back," Vashaw said, "but it is my full intent to pay it forward."
