Swifties already have emerging country singer Kelsea Ballerini on their radar from when Taylor Swift praised the East Tennessee talent on Twitter, but for those who still haven’t heard Ballerini’s addictive single “Love Me Like You Mean It,” you can get this eargasm and more on the singer-songwriter’s debut album The First Time. The debut was released this week and already reached No. 3 on iTunes country.
Curious why one of the biggest stars in the world tweeted that she was driving around with Ballerini’s EP on repeat? Here are a few things to know about this awesome ingénue.
Kelsea wrote her first song when she was 12 and knew she would commit to a career in music at 14.
Yes, before she was old enough to drive, Ballerini was penning tributes like “Oh Mama” for her mother (for Mother’s day, naturally) and at 14 told a producer in Knoxville that making music was what she wanted to do with her life, despite being told that there was “already a Taylor Swift.”
Ballerini LOVES Kelly Clarkson.
She recently admitted that her first experience being star struck was meeting the "American Idol" icon at the #ACCAwards.
Kelsea experienced musical history in her pajamas.
Every artist has an “I made it!” moment, but very few can say they had theirs in what they wore to sleep while buying their own debut album at Walmart.
Her first concert was Britney Spears' "Oops I Did It Again" tour.
She has no regrets.
Even though she’s finally in the spotlight, she stays humble and credits her peers.
Ballerini calls herself “such a fan” of Taylor Swift and says that her tweet about her music was “a mountaintop moment for sure."
She’s not afraid to get personal in her lyrics.
“Secondhand Smoke” is about her parents' split -- it was the hardest song for her to write and the only song she’s ever written about it.
She loves babies and is not afraid to share the spotlight with them.
At a recent Orlando show, Ballerini brought an adorable top on stage to wish him a happy 2nd birthday. Ahh, the Cute!
