Never Mind The Boom Clap, Is Charli XCX Ever Going To Put Out That Punk Record?

And just how will tampons play into her upcoming tour?

Charli XCX had one of the catchiest punk songs of 2014 with "Sucker" -- and this is coming from someone who moshs at DIY venues and whatever -- and it seems like 2015 could see her treading more firmly into that world.

At a MixRadio event in New York Tuesday (May 19), Charli told MTV News that when she hits the road with Bleachers in July, her show might be a bit different than fans have come to expect.

"I really want to focus this tour on just my album Sucker," Charli said. "I really want to take it back to the original idea I had when making this record, which was to make a super raw, very punk-inspired album. I think I'm going to change it sonically so it's more that. A lot less electronic. It's cool. It's going to be wild. It's going to be sweaty."

Charli also said that the tour was likely to be extremely Riot Grrl-esque, but unfortunately she couldn't get clearance to make the punky merch that she's been dreaming of for months.

"I really wanted to make tampon merch," she said. "That was a dream of mine for a really long time -- to have tampons that say 'Sucker' on the side and 'Pu--y Power' on the box. But it's a health issue if someone's going to put it in their vagina."

In case you're wondering why Charli is so focused on the Crimson Curse (as in periods, not Hayley Williams name in "Bad Blood"), during the Riot Grrrl days artists like Donita Sparks of L7 used to throw used tampons at rowdy audiences.

"People throw me tampons sometimes and I'm like, 'Great! I don't have to go to the CVS!'" Charli told us. Thankfully, the un-used variety.

Although Sucker was decidedly more punk than most high-profile records, Charli originally was aiming to go much more extreme with her music; she made a whole punk record in Sweden that has not yet seen the light of day.

Those songs, however, could get a facelift soon. "I might release a couple of songs," she said. "I actually had a really interesting phone call with Marilyn Manson a couple of months ago where we spoke about working on some music or doing a show together. I kind of want to send them to him and see if he wants to f--k around with them."

And to that we say...
