"Shadowhunters" has found its perfect villain.
Alan Van Sprang has been cast as rogue Shadowhunter Valentine Morgenstern, ABC Family announced today (May 15). According to the network, Van Sprang will be a recurring guest star in the series. We've seen Van Sprang play a charming antagonist on The CW "Reign" -- RIP King Henry II -- so we know he has the chops to play the Big Bad in "Shadowhunters."
Described as "brilliant, cunning and dangerously handsome," Valentine is a rogue Shadowhunter who's hellbent on creating his own army of enhanced Shadowhunters -- and he'll destroy anything or anyone in his path. In other words, he's just the kind of complex villain this show needs.
Based on the bestselling "Mortal Instruments" series by author Cassandra Clare, "Shadowhunters" will follow Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara), an 18-year-old whose world is turned upside down when her mom Jocelyn is kidnapped. She then discovers that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters -- human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons.
Van Sprang joins the previously cast McNamara (Clary Fray), Dominic Sherwood (Clary’s super hot, arrogant love interest Jace), Alberto Rosende (Clary's BFF Simon), Emeraude Toubia (Isabelle), Matthew Daddario (Izzy's older brother Alec) and Isaiah Mustafa (Luke). (This cast is seriously good-looking.)
Filming is set to begin this month, with an expected premiere set for sometime early next year.
