And what better place to prove your dominance than Sin City?!
The multi-talented 45-year-old entertainer announced during “American Idol” on Tuesday night (May 12) that she’s booked a residency at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood resort. Yep, that’s the same place Britney Spears is currently holding court, meaning pop music fans will get BOTH of these legendary babes under one roof! BRB, booking tickets to Vegas ASAP.
To whet our appetites for what’s bound to be a seriously amazing show, Lopez shared a teaser video on her Instagram, complete with electrifying concert footage, sparkly outfits, fireworks, and lots of booty-shaking.
In a statement, Lopez said, “I’ve been preparing for this moment my entire life. The show is going to be a multifaceted high energy Jenny from the Block party, mixing all aspects of what my fans and I love — Dance, Hip Hop, Latin and Pop. It’s going to be the show I’ve always dreamed of creating.”
Lopez’s as-yet-untitled show kicks off Jan. 20, 2016, and will continue for 19 more dates through June. What’s unclear so far is her role on the final season of “American Idol,” which is also set to premiere in January 2016, but Lopez could feasibly do both, depending on which nights she films the show and which nights she performs in Vegas. On top of those commitments, she’s also starring in the upcoming NBC cop drama “Shades of Blue,” which premieres sometime next season. Oh, AND she’s a mom to 7-year-old twins. Superwoman much?!
While we wait for more details to emerge, our heads are already spinning with all the possible scenarios Lopez could incorporate into her show. Here are six of our biggest wishes we’d like her to fulfill:
Plenty of throwback hits!Giphy
Don’t know about you, but we still put her debut album “On the 6” on regular rotation. “Waiting For Tonight” and “If You Had My Love” will probably make their way onto her Vegas setlist, but can you imagine if she also busted out “Feelin’ So Good?!” Now THAT would be amazing.
At least one of her best Spanish songs.Tumblr
It’s probably a stretch, but Jen has SO many incredible Spanish-language tracks, like the irresistible “Que Hiciste.” It doesn’t matter if you can’t understand the words — that ish is sexy in any native tongue.
Reworkings of her best hits.Giphy
Some of the best moments during Britney’s “Piece of Me” residency show are when she takes her most classic and recognizable hits and transforms them into exciting new versions we’ve never heard before. For example, she turns “Stronger” and “(You Drive Me) Crazy” into pounding anthems with almost goth-like elements. We’d love to see Jen do the same by breathing new life into her hits — imagine “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” as a dark, brooding, bass-heavy revenge banger. HERE FOR IT.
A Selena cover song.Giphy
Reenactments of her most iconic music video scenes.Giphy
The possibilities here are endless. She could recreate the “Flashdance”-inspired audition scene from “I’m Glad” or the intense, extended dance sequence from “Ain’t It Funny” (the alt version, not the Ja Rule version, duh).
An epic performance of “Jenny From The Block” to open the show.Giphy
Michelangelo had the Sistine Chapel. Leonardo da Vinci had the Mona Lisa. And Jennifer Lopez has “Jenny from the Block.” That song is basically her mission statement in this world, and it’d be the perfect way to kick off her show each night, telling her fans who she is, where she comes from, and reminding them not to be fooled by the rocks that she’s got.
