Did Wiz Khalifa And Charlie Puth Bring The Rap Ballad Back With 'See You Again?'

Wiz and Charlie think so.

Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth have been on top of the music world. Their "See You Again" duet, a tribute to Paul Walker in "Furious 7," has been the #1 song in the country for several weeks now and is showing no signs of cooling off.

During a recent interview, the two spoke about their collaboration, chemistry, and the moving song's impact. But they also discussed bringing the rap ballad back.

“I think we brought the power ballad back,” Charlie Puth said in an interview with Billboard that dropped today (May 8). When the interviewer suggested they also brought "the rap ballad” back, the duo agreed.

“When was the last one?” Wiz asked. “Puffy’s ‘I’ll Be Missing You.’” The song Wiz referenced was released as a single for Diddy's 1997 album No Way Out. The song and much of the album acted as a tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. who had suffered an untimely death in Los Angeles earlier that year.

While that can be up for debate, the song's success isn't. "See You Again" is the #1 song on Billboard's Hot 100 for the fourth week in a row. It's a track that's resonated with fans because of its message and its connection to Paul Walker's final scene in "Furious 7." Wiz spoke with MTV News about his work on the track in April.

“To have the responsibility to do the Paul Walker record was really dope,” Wiz said at the time. “I basically thought about what the movie stands for as far as family and the brotherhood, and of course, using the metaphor of the last ride and the last race because of that last scene."
