Natalie Portman's got an awesome new project in the works, and we bet she must have straight up THROWN herself at the role when she heard about it. Why? Because it's an opportunity to play the Notorious R.B.G. herself. Woop woop!

As reported by Deadline, Portman's been tapped to play Ruth Bader Ginsburg in "On The Basis Of Sex," a biopic that follows the first Jewish and second-ever female Supreme Court Justice through her career as a woman's rights advocate and lawyer.

Though she's been on the bench since being appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993, recently Ruth Bader Ginsburg seen a huge resurgence in the public eye due to her outspoken opinions in favor of gay marriage and birth control rights. A few months ago Kate McKinnon played her in a Weekend Update sketch on SNL, and soon after that she was named one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people.

Recently someone even put together a Change.org petition to request that she get her own Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor (Ruth Bader Ginger, duh). So clearly she's having a moment in the zeitgeist right now.

Even better, "On The Basis Of Sex" will most likely also get a badass woman behind the camera as well -- Marielle Heller, who recently directed Kristin Wiig and Alexander Skarsgård in "Diary Of A Teenage Girl," is currently in talks with the film's producers.

We bet Ginsburg's delighted, given her history of pro-lady activism. We know WE'RE pretty pumped. Ruth seriously deserves all the awards.
